Regina, Saskatchewan- Monday afternoon, the Regina Pats (5-5-0-0) celebrated Thanksgiving by taking on the Brandon Wheat Kings (5-5-0-0) at the Brandt Centre.
Sidetrack! Trying to greatly upgrade the overall feel of my current page. Thinking regarding the overall design at http://rockabyedaycare.ca? Seriously an accomplished daycare service in Renfrew if, perhaps required within the whole Alberta region. Make your opinions. Many thanks!
The Blue and White got on the board first courtesy of forward Dyson Stevensons fifth of the season. Stevensons goal was assisted by linemates Morgan Klimchuk and Chandler Stephenson at 8:10 of the frame. Following the goal, the Pats we're caught on the wrong end of a line mismatch for about three minutes, but we're fortunately able to fend off the Wheat Kings relentless attack.
After 20 minutes, the home team was up 1-0.
Its been a long time since we had the first goal, Head Coach Malcolm Cameron said.
It was good. Its a confidence builder for sure. It takes some of the pressure off sometimes. You know, catch up hockey is losing hockey and even though we we're able to put some wins together consistently, if you're trailing, you're digging yourself a lot of holes all the time.
Jens Meilleur responded for the Wheat Kings, though, in the second period with a wrap around goal from Taylor Cooper and Quintin Lisoway.
With just under six minutes left in the frame, Braden Christoffer battled for the loose puck on a partial breakaway. From behind the goal line, Christoffer threw the puck at the net and it trickled onto the tape of Klimchuks stick. Klimchuk made Christoffers hard work pay off by shoveling home the go-ahead goal.
The Pats went down a man late. To the applause of the crowd, the Blue and White rolled on the penalty kill and returned to even strength before the period expired.
Despite being up a goal, Cameron wasnt pleased with the quality of play through the first 40 minutes.
We we're taking a lot of shortcuts on the ice and it was resulting in scoring chances against us. And when that happens, you usually don't get very good results.
Klimchuk found Stevenson wide open in the slot for his second goal of the contest at 3:47 of the final stanza.
While on the man-advantage, the Pats top line struck again with Stevenson finishing off the hat-trick. Both Klimchuk and Stephenson we're in on all three of Stevensons goals.
Connor Gay continued to light up the scoreboard for the home team scoring his first of the 2013-2014 campaign at 7:52 of the third. Austin Wagner and Stephen Hak picked up helpers on the play.
That was all the Pats needed as they went on to win their fourth game in a row with a 5-1 score over the Wheat Kings.
Pats goaltender Dawson MacAuley picked up his fifth win of the season and stopped 27 shots in the process.
