“YOU DON’T NEED TO SEW IT” Episode #10 – DIY Backpack – for fun and fashion!
Today we’re going to show you how to really give your backpack a personality of its own! AND YOU WON’T EVEN NEED TO SEW IT! Check out this DIY Backpack video.
For this fun and unique way to update the look of your DIY backpack you’re going to need:
- Stitch ripper
- some white vinyl upholstery fabric
- Black fabric (or two beads)
- Paper plate
Step #1: So the first thing you’ll need to do is remove the label from your DIY backpack if there’s one on the front. This shouldn’t be too hard to do with a stitch ripper, leaving you with just a plain surface.
Step #2: Next, take your white fabric and measure out a piece of it that’s long enough to go across the zipper on the front of the backpack, and be 2 inches in width. Mark off those measurements and then use the scissors to cut the fabric. And then just go along the length of it cutting out triangles for teeth, leaving about half an inch of width along the other side.
Step #3: Now you take your speed sew and carefully apply it along the uncut side of the fabric. Place that under the flap above the zipper so that it’s stuck in place, leaving only the triangles, or teeth, sticking out.
Step #4: The next part is the eyes so you’ll cut out two big circles from the white fabric. Then the two smaller circles from the black fabric (or just grab the two fabric beads).
Step #5: Next, take the speed-sew again and apply it lightly to the back of the black pieces/beads. You can use the toothpick to spread it around. Then place those onto the white circles, near the edge.
Step #6: Once that’s set you add speed-sew to the back of the white pieces as well, again using the toothpick to spread it around close to the edges. And then place those on the top section of the bag, where you’d like the eyes to be, ensuring the black parts are each in the lower corners, toward each other.
And there you have it – a DIY backpack- give your backpack a name and you now have a friend with you wherever you go! THIS REALLY IS A FUN WAY TO UPDATE THE LOOK OF A BACKPACK, ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS. Ya, or for the kid inside of us!
